“Bite-Sized” Wisdom – Dentistry for Technicians and Assistants

This course is designed for veterinary technicians and assistants of all experience levels.

Lecture

  1. The 12-step Comprehensive Oral Health Assessment and Treatment
  2. Basic tooth anatomy and oral pathology
  3. Performing a dental cleaning (ultrasonic scaling and hand instrumentation)
  4. Performing, and correcting dental radiographs
  5. Instrument care and sharpening
  6. Regional anesthesia
  7. Ergonomics in the dentistry suite
  8. Treatment plan implementation
  9. Discharge/home care tips

 

Wet Lab

  1. Obtaining diagnostic radiographs utilizing canine and feline cadaver specimens
  2. Practicing regional anesthesia
  3. Oral exam review
  4. Ultrasonic scaling and polishing emphasizing the need for loupe magnification
  5. Hand instrumentation usage and importance
  6. Instrument care, including sharpening of luxators, elevators, scalers, and curettes

 

RACE-Approved for 8 hours of CE Credit

This workshop will empower technicians by increasing their knowledge in many aspects of veterinary dentistry and implement a higher level of dental care in a general practice setting

    Meet Your Instructor

    Erica Carr RVT, VTS (Dentistry)

    Erica Carr RVT, VTS (Dentistry) feels privileged to have been in the veterinary field for 26 years!  She is based in beautiful Colorado Springs, Colorado at Animal Dental Care and Oral Surgery.  Working in a specialty dentistry practice has helped her love of dentistry grow into more of a passion.  She is proud to be a part of teaching, organizing, and overseeing veterinary dental classes that are held monthly in Colorado Springs.  While Erica is not working, she owns and operates a Mobile Vet Tech business, called Pet 2 Vet Connection, that creates a more relaxed experience for dogs and cats.  Erica especially enjoys spending time in her greenhouse, off- roading in the Colorado mountains with her husband and her rescue Bull Terrier, Falafel, driving her Classic Mini Cooper around town and playing roller derby.

    Due to limited class size, we have instituted a cancellation policy.  This only applies to our all-day classes for veterinarians.

    Refund Policy

    Cancellation requests must be submitted in writing via email (info@vetdentistwi.com).  Course cancellations are subject to the following refund policy.

    • Cancellations 30+ days prior to the course will be issued a full refund.
    • Cancellations 29 days or less prior to the course – a refund will be issued, minus a 20% administration fee.

     

    Course Cancellation

    If due to unforeseen circumstances, Veterinary Dental Specialists of Wisconsin reserves the right to cancel a course at any time. Any person who has registered for the course will be notified by email at the address noted on the registration. A telephone call will also be made to each registrant for whom a number is available. We will make every opportunity to offer registration in a future class.

    Costs incurred by the registrant, such as airline or hotel penalties, are the responsibility of the registrant. We recommend purchasing trip insurance. Trip insurance policies can potentially cover the cost of tuition, canceled lodging deposits, unused airfare, and other trip expenses in the event that the course is canceled.
